Questions:
But anyways, so my questions are:- Do you think swearing is wrong?
- Do you do it?
- Do you think you should?
- Do you think the biblical idea of 'swearing' is compatible with what we define as 'swearing' in our modern day?
- Where do we draw the line with what is swearing and not swearing in our modern definition of swearing? (e.g. some words that were particularly heinous in the past are now an acceptable part of general Christian vocabulary)
The Bible says:
- Matt 15: 10-11 - Jesus called the crowd to him and said,"Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
- Colossians 3:8 - But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
- Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
- Ephesians 5:3-5 - But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
- James 1:26 - Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
(Please read above scriptures contextually).
So anyways, if you particularly have a bible-based opinion, I'd love to hear from you.
